Its modular nature allows easy customisation and comprises two main elements, a downloadable client application and a scaleable server side application. The Hi2 lobby system has been designed to allow internet users to gather in a series of virtual meeting rooms or lobbies, allowing them to chat, make friends, and play games; either together as a team, or head to head against each other. The lobbies can be easily configured to support whatever games users are interested in, and can be re-configured in seconds.
The client itself will automatically connect the user to the relevant lobby. Once there, the system supports a number of features, including general lobby chat that is visible to every other player in the lobby, private messaging to another individual in the lobby, and the ability to create either a private or public game table for between 2 and 8 players. Each game table has its own chat channel for private conversation with your teammates or opponents, depending on the game. Meanwhile the lobby tracks all the other users in the lobby, continually updating the display of games tables with empty 'seats' awaiting other players to join, and tables with games already in progress.
The system automatically supports games written to support Microsoft's 'DirectPlay' standard, which automates the setup & configuration of peer-to-peer games from the lobby; all the user has to do is have the game installed on their computer.

A minimum of a Windows 95 capable machine with at least Microsoft Internet Explorer 3 or later, or Netscape 3 or higher.
N.B. > For DirectPlay Games, DirectX 3 or higher needs to be
installed.

Linux versions supported: Redhat 6.0 or higher,
Sun Solaris 2.7 or higher.
